A unique blend of southern soul and cosmopolitan style, Beans & Cornbread has been voted "Best Soul Food" for more than 14 years and running. Diners from all over the Detroit area, as well as out of towners flock to Beans & Cornbread for the award winning menu of southern favorites like fried chicken, farm-raised catfish, smothered pork chops, collard greens, candied sweet potatoes, macaroni & cheese and more. The restaurant strives to use only the freshest ingredients including Michigan-grown collard greens and fresh salmon filets for our savory croquettes.
The interior of the bustling bistro is adorned with portraits of African American history and memorabilia. Southern flavors and spices drift out of the open kitchen tantalizing the palates of diners that crowd into the restaurant from open to close. Diners bask in the warmth of southern hospitality and tap their toes to the sounds of vintage Blues and R&B. Celebrities have also savored the flavor of Beans & Cornbread including The Reverend Jessie Jackson, Chef Emeril Lagasse, Common, Jill Scott, Queen Latifah, The Rolling Stones, and Detroit's own Aretha Franklin.
Since opening in 1997 Beans & Cornbread has expanded with two exciting new additions - sidebar wine & martini bar and Red Velvet. The Red Velvet room features a private entrance, plush seating, state-of-the-art AV system and exceptional service for private parties and meetings for up to 50 guests.
